DeNoize soon to install its technology in the first homes near Schiphol

DeNoize, a Dutch deep-tech company developing advanced soundproofing technology for windows, today shares new results from a sleep study with Schiphol and Omgevingsfonds Schiphol (former Stichting Leefomgeving Schiphol). During the second half of 2024, residents living near Schiphol slept in a pilot house to try out the DeNoize technology. The findings mark a pivotal step in DeNoize’s mission to improve quality of life for residents living in areas near airports and highways, for example.

During the study, local residents spent two nights in the test house: one with the technology turned on, and one with it turned off. The study showed measurable improvements in sleep quality with the DeNoize technology turned on. Participants fell asleep faster (33 to 7 minutes), woke up less frequently (49 to 16 minutes of interruptions), and slept longer overall — gaining over 60 minutes of added rest per night. Around 70% of participants reported a better sleep quality when the DeNoize system was active.

DeNoize technology transforms standard windows into a smart, noise-cancelling surface through its patented integration of sensors and actuators, small components that gently vibrate the glass in response to noise, generating sound waves that cancel out incoming noise.  By countering low-to-mid frequency sounds — the primary source of urban noise annoyance — the DeNoize system creates a more comfortable and healthy indoor environment, without requiring the residents to replace their windows, as the system can be easily added to existing ones.

Designing noise cancellation for buildings is a fundamentally different challenge than the headphones. The sound field inside a room is shaped by walls, furniture, and reflections — and is constantly changing. What we’re building is not just a product, rather a new layer of acoustic intelligence for living spaces,” said Olivier Schevin, co-founder and CTO of DeNoize.

The next phase of DeNoize’s rollout is already underway. In the coming months, the company will test its technology in 10 to 15 homes near Schiphol airport. For one week, residents will use the smart windows in their own living environments, providing new insights into the system’s application across various noise environments and window types. These findings will be used to optimize the technology and reduce noise impact on local residents.

DeNoize is exploring the possibility of relocating its pilot house — previously situated near Schiphol Airport — to a residential area near Rotterdam The Hague Airport in early 2026. This move would enable further real-world testing and support improvements to the system in different living environments.

“For too long, noise has simply been accepted as a part of urban life. We’re challenging that idea by making sound comfort a basic expectation of modern living, giving people the tools to take control of their indoor sound environment—just as they do with light, temperature, and air quality” said Aman Jindal, founder and CEO of DeNoize.

“Schiphol and the Omgevingsfonds Schiphol have been working closely with DeNoize for over five years, supporting the company’s growth from start-up to scale-up. This collaboration is important to us, because we want to reduce nuisance for the surrounding area. DeNoize’s technology shows great promise, as confirmed once again by the results of the recent study. Thanks to this close collaboration, the smart window solutions are being tailored to the specific needs of the airport’s surroundings,” says Jan Zekveld, head of innovation at Royal Schiphol Group.

About DeNoize

DeNoize, founded in 2018, is a deep-tech startup based in the Netherlands. The co-founders, Aman Jindal & Olivier Schevin, founded the company with the mission to tackle noise pollution and enable a healthier and more comfortable living environment for residents. DeNoize has developed an active noise reduction technology for windows that can achieve a significant reduction against outdoor noise.
